Position Details

The Research Assistant role is temporary and contractual:

• Term: The position lasts up to two years, with the possibility of extension for additional six-month periods, up to a maximum of four extensions.
• Stipend: You’ll receive a fixed honorarium of Rs. 30,000 per month. No additional allowances will be provided.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Research Assistant, you’ll have a range of duties, including:

1. Judicial Assistance: Helping Judges with their judicial and administrative tasks.
2. Research: Reading case files, preparing case summaries, and conducting legal research.
3. Documentation: Maintaining records of judgments and legal points.
4. Additional Support: Assisting with speeches and academic papers as needed.

Work Environment

The position is full-time, and you might be required to work at the Judge’s residential office in addition to regular office hours. Flexibility is key, as you may need to work on non-Gazetted holidays or adjust your schedule to meet the Judge’s needs.

Training and Conduct

• Induction Training: New Research Assistants will undergo training at the Odisha State Judicial Academy to familiarize themselves with their duties and enhance their skills.
• Professional Conduct: You’ll need to maintain high standards of integrity and confidentiality. You’re expected to avoid any conflicts of interest and not take on additional assignments during your tenure.

Eligibility Criteria

Here’s what you need to qualify for the Research Assistant position:

• Educational Background: You should have an LLB, LLM, or any higher qualification in law from a recognized institution.
• Age Limit: Candidates must be under 33 years old as of January 1st of the year of application.
• Experience: You should not have more than five years of legal practice if you’re a practicing advocate.
• Technical Skills: A good working knowledge of computers is essential.
